These babies are the ultimate DIY sneaker (short of making the entire thing yourself). Several years back, I spraypainted some of my sneakers silver and the result was marvellous; last summer I ordered some white Keds, spraypainted them gold, and recoiled in horror at the result. I think the fabric is treated in some way that makes paint super ugly, or maybe it just looks really bad on that shape of shoe or on my foot. In any event, I considered these sneakers a disappointment and never wanted to wear them.

Today I decided to do something about my hideous sneakers instead of whining about it, so I did a stud-based revamping. It was pretty cheap and now I loooove these sneakers and want to wear them all the time! Amazing what a little shiny will do for some shoes ;) It took about two hours total to put in all of the studs. They also look way more awesome from far away because they look shinier and those two things are definitely directly proportionate.

I’ve had studded sneakers on the mind lately because of an editorial in Flaunt magazine (Photo #3 above). Obviously a lot more intense than what I have done, but I couldn’t find any of those insane spikes like in the photo. I do, however, aspire to one day turn my feet into metallic porcupines because what could be better in life? I’m seriously considering buying some studs of different varieties/in bulk from teh internets; I think I’m addicted to it >__>;

But my love for metallic studded clothing actually goes back several years, when I found a fashion editorial in the New York Times magazine called The Girl Who Fell To Earth and was super gold and futuristic and David Bowie meets FLCL so of course I loved it and it really stuck with me. I can’t find the photos online or my pile of back copies of the NYTimes mag (!) but I did find one image from the shoot that I incorporated into a collage some time later (Photo #4 above). I think it gets across the gist of the overall shoot :P If anyone knows where I could find these photos, please send me a link! Tengo muchas ganas de ver el resto de las fotos!! Thanks!
